So this tranny flush is a safe way? I just did not want to cause more damage by adding this.
If your engine has a lot of sludge the ATF flush will dislodge it and possibly clog the oil pickup. If you are afraid of trying the ATF flush (it worked for me at 130K miles) just switch to synthetic and change it every 3000 miles.

Cheers,

Pete

Drain the crankcase, fill with ATF, idle 20 mins, drain and change the oil filter, refill with cheap oil.
500 miles later, drain motor oil, refill with ATF, idle 20 min, drain, change oil filter and refill with cheap oil again.
500 miles later change the oil and filter again this time refilling with full synthetic motor oil.
So two ATF flushes 500 miles apart and then a full synthetic oil change 1000 miles after the first ATF flush.
Then chnage the oil and filter every 5,000 miles from then on.

Yes, on my ex-brother in-laws farm truck. Mixed results.
The truck was driven hard, oil changed once a year no matter the miles, over worked and under maintained.
*Your results may vary.

Seems like a bad idea. If people are worried about sludge gunking up their motor, adding a can of whatever is in Restore would probably have the same effect of clogging oil passages and the pickup tube.

Cheers,

Pete

It is a can of graphite. Did some research online and it is about 50/50 for screwing people over, like you said clogging oil passages, or just making the engine run a tidbit smoother.

I'm not going to risk it.

Just read this today and you are right. The graphite fills the scratches in your cylinder walls and also fills everything else. If your motor is toast, this will keep it going a little while longer, but if you are ok, don't use it.

I had an 84 Chevette that I drove to the shipyards. I dumped a can in it and it did great for another 3 years. BUT, I wouldn't put it in unless it is a last resort.

You would have better results if after doing the ATF flush, once, use one of the 1 quart oil flushes you can buy at the auto parts stores, before your your nrxt oil change and then every other time in the future.
The total build up won't just go away on one flush, take your time, it took a long time to build up and it will take time to get rid of it.
