Default Bit urgent issue with SLS and a fun fact!

Hi all,

my disco was going down some times last weeks. Sometimes within minutes, sometimes not and sometimes after a couple of days.

the airbags were leaking.

fun fact: just removed the both airbags and it where still the originals, from 1998! Haha!

now the issue, the originals airlines where ‘screwed’ in.
removed the copper thing and cut the airline right behind the little copper thing when you backup the copper thing that screws into the airbag.

fit the new airbags in and pushed the airlines in. I thought it was a push system that holds the airline tight. But i can remove the airline by hand and cannot push it further in because there is some kind of rubber ring on the airline preventing to go deeper.

we’re going to italy this friday, so i want it fixed before then

here are pictures of the situation.

hope you guys can help me out here, thanks.

i’m scared that if i start the engine the lines will be pushed out by the pressure since i can also remove the lines by hand.

the airbags are contitech’s by the way.

It's likely a compression fitting. In this picture the nut and ferrule/"olive" would go over the airline, you insert the airline fully into the fitting and then the nut compresses the "olive" to create a seal.

It doesn't sound like it's a compression fitting like above. The instructions say:
3. Push the end of the pipe firmly and squarely into
the replacement spring connector collet (Figure
(c)) until it comes to a natural stop. Note that
resistance will be felt essentially in two stages:
firstly during the insertion process as the internal
parts of the connector take a grip on the pipe wall
and secondly once the limit of the pipe insertion
has been reached.

4. Ensure that a good connection has been made by
pulling the connected pipe lightly to check that it
is not easily freed.

Thanks for your quick replies!

Before i had dinner i put both airlines in the new airbags.
After dinner i could not remove the airlines by hand, i probably had to wait a little longer for the airlines to be tight.

i remember my p38 had collets you had to pull before you could get the line out, that probably confused me.

anyway, thank again, it’s sorted and let the holiday begin
