Default Block heater options

Anyone used block heaters without problems that aren't factory? $215 for a block heater is pretty expensive but I've read some had problems when they went with NAPA part ones. Also looking for a thermal blanket for the battery because its only a year old but isn't having a lot of fun some cold mornings so recommendations?

I don't see why an aftermarket one would be any different than the OEM one. It's not like LR has electronics, cooling systems or leak prevention figured out. Just find one that is the right dimensions and you probably are better off if you are running green coolant.

By the way, are you using a thinner oil for the winter? A synthetic would be even better. Cold temps and thick oil make turning over an engine very difficult. That will make your battery sound like it's low on juice.

I've been running 5-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic pretty much since I bought it 2+ years ago but the its having a hard turning over when it hits single digits down to -30 some mornings. May just get one of those pads that you put on the oil pan/transmission pan for now. My wife's pretty much gave me the look the last couple of times I've had to spend money (fan/water pump/hoses/tires) but its gone every time there's bad weather with her Tahoe left in the driveway.

Proline version is $50 from them but says its for 3.5/3.9 liter engines and 2004 discovery is 4.6 liter. I'll email them to see this will fit before I order and thanks for the link.

I'll look for you tomorrow, I don't believe it does but it doesn't hurt to check.

I cannot speak from experience on this part, but the part number PRC9674 is listed at some other sites as for the 4.0 and 4.6 as well as the older 3.5 and 3.9 and 4.2.

Thank for the help fellas and hopefully I can get one ordered so I can wait for a day that I won't freeze to the driveway to put it in. I've already warned her that the timing chain with all its fixins is getting done this summer and also need to do the three amigos. One year I'll go without dropping a G note.

Yeah Jafir you are correct, it does cross over to D2s as well. I'll update the info on the website.
