I don't think its really because of the Blue Devil. Land Rovers in general are high maintenance vehicles that have more systems that can go bad.

Yes. Exactly that.

as you fix the head gaskets, just make sure that you flush out the cooling system really well. Make certain that you clean out the heater core really well. Make sure that you use a new thermostat and that you clean out the tanks on the sides of the radiator. Good luck. As for the maintenance issues on a Rover, they are legendary! Phil

Ok, I appreciate the help guys. When I bought the truck, I have to confess, I was seduced by the tradition of the brand and I was also under the impression Discoveries were built like tanks. However, most here seem to agree that they are high maintenance vehicles. I don't think my lifestyle can handle it... I appreciate all the info I collected here. It helped me understanding what I'm up against. Thank you all.

Default tough call...

You can either be driving a POS LR or a POS honda....It's up to you.. Most here..well you know by now reading the posts...we drive POS LR's.... Seduced by the brand...Well if you are a outdoorsy sort yea...they are the bomb....The new LR's well... made for Pro basketball players i guess...It's a real shame what they have come to....But remember they where built and marketed to very rich people and know you can buy cheap but the upkeep is the same as for rich people....that is if you can turn a wrench....Dont need to be a rocket scientist either.. The engine is from the crowmagnum days...I own a 2006 volvo s40 that i really love but the dealer does most as i am clueless ... For $1,500.00 bucks you could be driving that think for another 10 years ...I had a RR i put 220,000 on and sold it to part out.. I put 130,000 on it in 8 years...so anything is possible...

Ok... So I have made my decision and I'll get it fixed by North Texas Rover (independent Rover shop in Dallas). Their over the phone ball park was about $2200. Any recommendation regarding which gaskets to use? Are there any upgrades available? Thanks!

there is a dvd out there that show you how to replace your head gaskets, buy it and watch it. if you are not 100% sure after watching it then hire some one. But I'm sure once you see what is involved, you will decide to take the job on yourself. 95% of the tools you will need can be gotten in a Craftsman $120 tool set.
