Timing chain.
It looks like you're doing all the right stuff Daedrix. One area concerns me though, in photo#3 each side of the timing chain there are two coolant ports, one each side, they seem full of white crud which looks like either calcium build up or maybe some coolant additive. If either it'll pay to flush out the cooling system with some mildly acidic fluid, I use central heating cleaner mixed with DI water and left in for a few days and then flushed out and backflushed. I tend to do this without a thermostat as it rushes around the system a lot faster and has a scouring effect. just a thought.

Well its been 5k miles since i changed my head gasket and I've had no issues since...well not with the engine at least. I did break my: transmission, front passenger half shaft, and another rear diff so just the normal rover stuff.

One another note the pics in this thread weren't showing up so i fixed all of them.

Thanks for all the details and pics. I paid $2400 for the job a few months back. Since then I've gotten more familiar with my truck and plan to do more myself. Great job!

Great pics. I too have to do that head gasket job. What did the cylinder head service cost you?

The fan is doing good my max temp is usually around 220f but i plan on doing an inline t-stat because i dont thing the 180 t-stat i bought during the install is a 180. I also plan on trying a vented hood mod and see if the temps go down any.

you temps are averaging 220F? is that with both fans running? the condenser fan should be coming on around 210.
