Default blown oil filter

ok so i did the head gaskets this weekend along with timing chain and gears , i also took apart the oil pump to have a look and pulled the check valve out of the front cover. now the thing has blown the oring out of three filters has anyone had this issue ? what should i be looking for ? its a 2000 d2 4.0 litre , any suggestions ? troy

do you have an oil cooler, might have restriction in there, some D2's had them, below rad near tranny cooler.

yes it has a cooler , everything was fine until i put it back together

Go into the Rave and read up on the valve and the oil pump.
In the mean time, do not start the engine again or you may blow either the rear main and or front seal also.

How tight have you been tightening the filter? 1/4 turn after the seal contacts the mating surface? Or more?

see attached pages from overhaul manual - perhaps check re-assembly of oil valve parts. With respect to sping length, I believe I saw a post about two different length springs, based on serial number. Main thing is parts positions.

you put the valve in backwards. a couple came out of the factory like that.

Do a psi check once you get this solved. Would be interesting if you had "high" PSI. lol Doubt thats it. How tight is oil filter?

What's the concern with the oil filter?
