Default body damage

Hello,

While in storage, my car got damaged on the back light grill protectors. The bolt anchor that holds the grill cover came out of the body panel and it would not go back in. My plan is to put it back and make it look as good as possible.

Has anyone repaired this back grill cover before?
Any help is appreciated,
George

The "nut" you have there is supposed to be captured in the body......when mine got popped out they wouldn't stay back in , in fact one of them tore out some of the metal with it. My fix was to go to the hardware store and ask for a "well nut", this will be a rubber coated nut that will go into the hole size you have and expand to tighten the gap as you tighten the bolt...thus sealing the hole and holding the guard on relativly well. I think it's going to be a 3/8" well nut----depending on the hole size and you will need a new bolt to fit whatever nut you get, thease are pretty cheap, usually less than $2.00

Thanks for your input! I was thinking of that as well.

I also considering drilling a whole in the other meatal wall and using the same type of ss bolt but longer so that it can reach the other metal wall.

From my experience, these gadgets usually cause more damage than they prevent - much more, actually. I'd remove the other one and toss both "protectors" in the garbage.

Get some liquid weld and it will hold like new. Get the type that has the two components that you mix together and in ten minutes it is hard as steel. put it on the retainer and let it sit for 10 minutes and than screw the bolt in and it will hold. I have used it on many applications and it has never failed me.
