I dried alot of stuff up with some good old brake cleaner. Ran it and Then looked. It's what we do at the bus depot i work at. You can always let it idle and watch any areas for drippy he after you clean up what is already there. That's how I narrowed all my leaks down. Besides the piddle marks on the pavement.

I got.congratulated on my new job, my dog 3 years ago.. I show up with a rover.. they say "good luck, you're gonna need it."

I just hope that I can fix this thing up and get on the preventative maintenance = 200K miles train.

Something I too, am going for. I think it will be fine. Just expect it to try your patience, and anger you in ways you've never been angered. And you will get along just fine with it.

realistically, I sought out a Dicso because I wanted a good vehicle in Chicago winters that can accompany some room for hauling a family, as well as be somewhat self serviceable within a reasonable cost to do so, while not buying a daily driver that says " I gave up". I've always admired the business nature of Discoveries while at the same time not giving up on looks and features. Fingers crossed on this one.

I just wanted a capable 4wd that my dog would get in.(she hates my saturn). Every grand cherokee I looked at had way to many miles, dents, broken interior parts, torn seats, bald tires whatever. I looked at durangos.. nuff said. Pathfinders.. too much rot ant too much money. I refuse to buy a toyota. Those things are, in my opinion, for people who don't care what they drive. The disco was somewhat of an accident. The girl friends brother is a big land rover/jaguar junkie. Works at a big dealer here in jersey. He found it. We looked? Poked prodded and scanned. He said buy it.. so i did.

Okay, so I bled the system and the waterfall is gone. I can still smell the coolant very faintly from outside the vehicle when it's running. I can't seem to locate the source of the leak yet. I'll be taking it to my VW tech friend this weekend to see if he can help find the issue. Can anyone tell me where to look in case it miraculously is a heater line? I'm really hoping that it isn't the HG since the car has so few miles and wasn't overheating on me at any point.

Discovery are very cool trucks. It's not for the feint of heart though, for sure.

Mine constantly smells slightly of coolant in the engine bay. It leaves no puddles and I've never been able to figure out exactly where it's dripping from. For me, I add a little bit now and again (few months time frame)

Do yourself a favor if you haven't already - pick up an UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center
to monitor temperature properly. The dash gauge is programmed to not make people worry, and will show dead even from like 130 degrees to 230 degrees. After putting in the colder thermostat mine runs at 194-195 all the time, down from 205-210 of the previous one.

My truck has left me stranded more times than any other vehicle I've EVER owned, including $200 beaters... and I still love it. There certainly is a love-hate relationship we all work with owning these!

Alot of that stuff I mentioned earlier is towards the firewall. It's the only explanation for having that cross member as wet as it is. That much dripping could be over time as well. I can't say without actually looking at it. The pressure test didn't show anything obvious?

hey Echo, congrats on the baby. my wife had our adorable little baby girl 3 mo's ago tmw, and that baby is just such a joy. had a similar thing happen with getting the Disco Lady. my wife doesn't drive, due to bad vision, and we were a 1 car family with the baby on the way. we had wife's mom and godmother staying with us and helping with the baby for a few months and decided it would be best to have a second vehicle. I went looking for a used merc as I have a buddy with a merc shop. couldn't find one but stumbled across the disco while looking. my first response to it was to laugh, shake my head and say "no way". over the course of the next 2 weeks I looked into them further and worked the seller down about $2k. now we have my mistress, and she has been keeping me busy. formerly owned a couple of jeeps and really enjoyed them, but the Disco Lady is just a whole different thing, I just love driving that truck. and working on her keeps me busy, after the baby and mommy have been taken care of and daddy needs some time. I took the truck to the local indy shop for a cooling system bleed after numerous attempts by me failed. they failed too, but did give it a once-over and identified some of her problems. some I was aware of, some not, some they missed. but it's nice to have somebody with some know-how to take a look at her. anyway, enough of my rambling. congrats on the baby, be prepared for sleep deprivation like you've maybe never known (coming from a Gulf War I vet, college and L school grad), but there's nothing like it!
