Question braek squeel & 3 amigos lights

I have read quite a bit about these two items on the forum but haven't really found what I'm looking for.

We replaced the disc pads on both the front and rear of my daughters DII this past Saturday using EBC Ultimax pads from Atlantic British. Didn't replace the rotors as they were very smooth and nearly zero wear between the contact area and the outer edge. It was an easy replacement job. All was good for about two days.

Yesterday morning she called and said the brakes were beginning to squeel on occasion. Later yesterday she called again and said the squeeling was getting progressivly louder and that the 3-amigos lights coming on and off but then stayed on.

Pulled the rear brakes apart last night to investigate. The brake-in film on the pads was worn off and there was lots of brake dust. Didn't see anything wrong with the pads, rotor or assembly. Re-bled the brakes but no change. The squeel is two tones, one when lightly pushing on the brakes is a hard squeel and can be heard for blocks, the other is on a medium push more of a harmonic hum and less volumn. Hard pressure does decrease the squeel but not much.

Reading about the 3-amigos, I don't think yet that the ABS modulator would go bad over night from a brake pad change, but I could be wrong.
There is mention of brake dust causing a malfunction in the sensor.

Could using compressed air to blow out the dust help? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Squeaky brakes and excessive brake dust can cause the 3 amigos to appear. I doubt that your modulator has gone bad that is too much of a coincidence. I am not familiar with the brake pads that you installed so I can't really comment about them. I always recommend ceramic brake pads especially the Akebono brand ones. They are virtually noise and dust free. One of the problems that you could have is a stuck caliper but than again why wasn't it doing it before you replaced the brake pads.

I had the problem of 3 Amigo's with brake squeal after a brake pad change. I pulled the pads off and sprayed on that anti squeal stuff on the back bought at the auto parts store and the problem went away, never back in 2 years.

did you line the back of the new pads with some type of anti squeel/anti rattle compound? such as the red permatex stuff.

That does help. As I replaced my front and rear within 6 months of one another. After I took the rear back apart to inspect and added the permatex anti squeal on the pads front and rear. Also sprayed every thing with brake cleaner 2-3 times. Not more sqealing. I used factory Land Rover Pads and DBA rotors F&R.
