Default Brake Booster - Options

Ladies/Gents,

So I either have a hissing cobra under the dash....or my booster is bad. It's also requiring most of my strength to stand on the pedal to get this pig stopped.

Considering I spend a lot of time lifting weights, that's kinda scary for anyone in front of me.

Master Cylinder was just done, and brakes bled, and its still rock hard. MC was leaking anyway, and needed doing.

I'll peek under the hood at the vac line, but based on being a 13 year old truck in arizona, I'm going with rubber having failed. Somewhere.

So - in the experience of those on this forum, and me not wanting to drop $500 on an OEM part, what are best bets/part numbers for boosters?

Amazon has an A1-Cardone reman for about $230 shipped, I've used their reman stuff on my Ford's for years, never had a problem. https://www.amazon.com/Cardone-Indus...dp/B001FI6JN8/

There seem to be a few used ones floating out there, and I've sent a couple emails, but I don't know the wisdom of used brake parts. The fact that booster issues seem relatively rare on this and other forums leads me to believe there is a low failure rate, but I'd like to check.

Anyway, all feedback is appreciated, and I'd like to get parts ordered asap. This is a bit of a sketchy ride at the moment, and its waaaay too hot to ride a motorcycle around all day.

Or, having found this on amazon, and being familiar with these from Ford Super-duty trucks - anyone like this option?

Very little.

Local 3 chains may be quicker and less $s if you return core.

Amazon isn't what it used to be.

Not all used brake parts are created equal. Or something like that ...

As you said the brake booster failure rate is extremely low. I bought a used one off a local boneyard truck back in November 2012 and it's performed flawlessly.

I now don't recall how I did it but I somehow dumped brake fluid into the booster ruining it while rebuilding the master cylinder. I don't know why yours needs to be replaced but I would have no qualms about buying a used one.

I rebuilt mine, and with a good bleeding, akebono pads, EBC rotors I am actually happy with the brakes. That said, if you find something better go for it.
