Default Brake light stays on always, fluid level looks good

I am new to Land Rover, have just aquired a 2001 Discovery SE.

My problem: Brake light stays on always, fluid level looks good, ABS light is working normal. So where is the brake switch or sensor for the hand brake that may be the problem or how do I adjust the cable if that could be the problem?

Any other ideas are welcome.

The only things that turn on the brake light are low fluid level or the parking brake.

So there's a switch on the reservoir cap, and a switch on the parking brake handle. Adjusting the cable doesn't affect the warning light.

Low system pressure, air in the lines or improperly bled brakes will also turn on the light.

Really, how? The wiring shows only the parking brake switch and the reservoir cap level switch. How would anything you've mentioned affect them?

It will be either a low fluid level or your parking brake switch has failed.

I thought the SLABS computer would turn it on, but maybe it would be accompanied by a fault code and an ABS warning light. See attached pdf.
So in op case ... probably something simple.

That applied to the ABS, not the brake lamp.

I agree, recently did a brake job and improperly bleed system... long story short thiers still air in the system but the brake light went out. Only came back on again when I messed up the parking brake...

Just be happy your ABS is NOT on at the moment... knock on wood

If your light is on, unplug the connector on top of the brake fluid container. If light goes out that switch is the problem. If not, problem is hand brake switch or a ground in the wiring. These are "normally open" switches, and they "close" to connect a ground and turn on the light.

Thanks for all the advice, I will check the switches this weekend.

I also have a check engine light blinking at me, but that's another problem. I will be borrowing a reader this weekend to check the error codes. I would guess is Probably is an O2 sensor. Any advice?

Thanks Again, I will let you know how things turn out.
