Default Brake Lights Always On

I know this is a common problem. Not sure if mine is for a common reason though. I've looked through the threads to no avail. Replaced my Master Cylinder and Booster and now my brake pedal doesn't reach my brake light switch to turn them off. So they are always on. What might i have missed in my booster change out that makes the pedal miss the switch. Also, there are two swithes what is the lower one for. Thanks

the brake lights don't turn off by the switch they turn on. Your question is confusing, why would you change a master cylinder because the lights stay on? Also when you say brake lights, we are talking about the ones on the back of the truck and not the brake light on the dash correct?

the lower one, is for your cruise control, the top one is for your brake lights. You may have pushed it in too far. When i got a replacement brake light switch, mine was pushed in too far, and the pedal wouldn't reach it to turn it off, so just pull it until the pedal will reach.

You probably haven't tested it, but i'm gonna guess your also able to shift out of park with out depressing the brake pedal too, right?

Hey Dynomite - I did EXACTLY the same thing. I replace my booster and master (cuz the master was leaking) and the brake lights wouldnt turn off. I didnt have time to address and didnt need the truck much. So - I'd like to fix this but it appears that even pushing in the brake switch plunger the lights still dont turn off - Did you find a solution?

Thanks

herblatham -

Are you saying there are 2 different switches beneath the dash? I (think) I only see one. It has a small vaccuum hose attatched to it through the firewall, I assume that is also part of the crusie control system (which I never use).

Is there a 2nd switch for the brakelights? If so, where the heck is it? Perhaps I knocked it loose when installing the brake booster and I'm screwing around with a crusecontrol switch.

Thanks.

Default Booster spacer

Hey Dynomite

How did you resolve? Was it the thickness of the booster spacer on the new booster?
