Default Brake lights unequal brightness

My left brake light is dimmer than the right. They both illuminate.

The tail light part is fine. Just when pressing the brake one glows more. Changing the bulb makes no difference.

Any ideas what thats about?

coincidentally enough, one of my '04s does the same thing on the left tail light.

i think it's an issue with the lens itself. good luck finding a replacement. they are NLA new, as far as i know and get snapped up pretty quickly used.

You might try removing the dimmer bulb to check voltage at the socket. There was a rusty lamp socket on my truck many years ago. I don't now recall which light it was, but a rusty socket could prevent the bulb from being as bright as it should be.

My 04 does this also. Driver side is dimmer that passenger side.

I hadn’t thought of the actual lens being the issue. Easy check. if it’s just dirty I’ll kick myself.

I’ll check the voltages.

Pulled the lenses off for the 1000th time to clean the contacts. Lenses are in equal condition.

Checked the voltages which match each side.

Then by a miracle they were equal brightness. So maybe the contacts looked clean but weren’t.

I’ll monitor and report back if they switch back to unequal again.

Default Check the bulb orientation

I installed new brake light bulbs and had the same issue. Thought it was a voltage issue, turned out that I installed the bulbs incorrectly.

The brake bulbs are dual filament, one dim, one bright. When you’re running with lights on, the dim ones should light light up, the brighter filament illuminates when you hit the brakes.
