Default Brake line/ bleed question

I just got done installing some rears spacers on my discovery. But, I had trouble with the passenger spring getting back in with the spacer so I disconnected the brake line from the caliper and I lost about 3/4 or so of a cup of fluid.

Do I just re-attach the brake line and top off the reservoir with fluid and bleed only that brake? (I rented a fancy brake bleed kit from advance auto)

Or do I have to change all the fluid and bleed all 4 brakes.

Thanks.

do the whole system while youre at it. let it gravity bleed from the one you had disconnected til you get a steady drip, then use the vac to suck it out til you have clean fluid comming out, repeat for all wheels... order matters, RR, LR, FR, FL

If it has been a while since you have flushed the whole system go ahead and do it while you have the brake bleeder. If the brakes were flushed recently, within the past year, you can get away with just bleeding that one brake.

according to the RAVE manual and contrary to everything most of us know about bleeding brakes, the correct bleeding order for a Rover is RF, LF, RR, LR.

I just had the 60K mile service done. I'll check the papers to see if they did the brakes. Pretty sure they should have.

If they didn't touch the fluid I'll drain/refil.

Thanks for the help guys.

AK,
That is just one of many errors printed on the Rave CD, should start at the r/r, l/r, r/f and left front, apx. 3 pints of DOT 4.

Pete, Rebleed your brakes, the dealer will never do a full bleed. Quick way to varify would see how many pints you were billed for or see if you brake fluid is crystal clear, if not redo it.

Will do.

Ah, so the RAVE is wrong. I'll make a note of that. Crystal clear it is. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure we have covered this before now that you mention it. Must have been outside my 20 second memory.

I questioned Disco Mike about the brake sequence when i was doing my 60k service a few months ago, but he set me straight! Do as HE says, i have great brake response and you can barely see my brake fluid unless you shake the car.

But I think I still have stock rotors and pads...a few more months and those will be changed. =)

Has anyone used a Motive Power Bleeder for bleeding brakes?:

Would this model work on a 2003 LR Disco II?

Thanks!

the reason for the bleed order mike posted, as best i can figure, is that you work from the brake that is furthest away from the reservoir first... which makes sense... the farther you are from the reservoir the more space you have to contain air...
