Default Brake problem after new pads and rotors

I installed new pads and rotors on the rear. The pads seem to be only making contact at the top of the rotor. The further down the face you get, the less it appears the pads are contacting the rotor surface with it looking like not touching at all at the bottom of the pad. It is doing it on both sides the rotors, both sides of the rear.

The slide pins are in good shape, well greased, and I tried 2 diff makes of brake pads. The rotors are raybestos(any good?). I dont have a micrometer to check and see if the face of the rotors are tapered, any other ideas what it may be?

Are they dual piston calipers? Maybe one of the pistons inside the calipers are getting hung up?

The rears are single piston. I moved it in and out a couple times to make sure it moved free. Its odd how both left and right sides are doing the exact same thing. I'm gonna take it apart in the am once more and take a file to the piston face and opposite pad seat to see if theres a high spot or something.

Wish I wouldnt have chucked the old pads and rotors so fast so I could see if the were worn tapered also.

What brand of brake pads did you buy?

The first ones I had were Centric from rockauto. Then I picked a pair up at autozone (duralast) to try a diff brand.

And on a side note: dont anyone get centric pads. Didnt have them on long enough to see how they worked, but the fit and size was terrible. the pad face was quite noticably smaller than the OE ones

My rears do the same thing with a quality set of EBC pads. In my case, the rear calipers are as old as the truck, and the calipers have lost some material due to corrosion. As a result, they're no longer square.

The fix is to replace your calipers. I'll be replacing all 4 of mine before the winter hits again.

Well, I dissasembled the rear brakes down to and including the pad anchors. I cleaned ( fine file'd) all mounting points and pad contact surfaces. The pass. side looks pretty good now, the driver side is better but still not hitting full. Think I will take it apart once more, try cleaning/relieving a little material with a dremel or die grinder. If that dont do it, guess it'll be a new caliper(s)
