Default Brake question/Can't shift out of Park

on my son's 96 Disco put your foot on the brake but car won't shift out of park. any ideas?

Could be the brake switch. Have you looked at that?

It is the brake pedal switch, when you press the brake pedal the switch turns on your brake lights and sends a signal to your neutral safety switch to allow you to shift out of park.
You can buy one at AutoZone.
