Did anyone experience such issues on a D2 or is this just a theoretical assumption?

 

Not sure if anybody has had it on a DII, but there are enough Porsches, Miata and other sports cars out there that are a lot lighter cracking their drilled rotors.

 

I've heard of that on high performance cars, but I've never had that with them installed onto a 4x4.

 

These are mine.. DBA (Disc Brakes Australia). The small slots keep the pads from forming gas between the rotor and the pads, and they look good.



It took a grinder to get one off too.

 

I can't find DBAs, all out of stock. Only available from Australia.

 

As much as anything, the cause of cracks is cheap metal being used. Any rotor will fail once it is exceeds it failure point. Plenty of Porsche rotors crack, on the race track, where it is expected and not a big deal. My GL450 is nearly 3 tons and I drive the **** out of it, with drilled rotors, no issues. A short time on the track in my 911 can cause cracks.
The issue is not holes or slots, its the quality of the rotor, how you drive and your expectations.

 

Porsche = Jet
Land Rover Discovery 2 = Turtle or maybe a slug on an energy drink.

 

I had a set of the TF drilled/slotted rotors on my D2 and absolutely loved them. They got worked HARD and I never warped them not did they ever crack.

Now, that was 8 years ago so production could have changed some, but for me they were awesome and I'd buy em again in a heartbeat.
