Default Brakes Concern

When the brakes are applied the truck comes to a nice stop; however if I release my foot from the pedal while stopping and apply pressure a second time the power of the brakes almost doubles. (Or so it feels).
Is it a normal thing to need a "double pump" to get the full effects of the braking ability?
If not, what needs to be looked at?
I had a brand new ABS modulator put it in a couple years ago. ( to rid myself of the 3 amigos). System bled.
I have also installed new pads and rotors all the way around...almost a year ago.
The brake fluid level is good and can see no leaks.
I have felt this for a long time and was once told it was normal?
I assume that because of the strong braking on the second press that the system is not leaking.
I think I read somewhere here that replacing brake lines to a stainless, may help?
Any input always appreciated...

What you are describing is normal for a D2.
If you want a firmer pedal, replace your rubber brake hoses to the calipers with stainless steel, makes a nice difference.

Hey Mike,
So, was this designed into the Land Rover Discovery? Is there some off reading reason to have some softer brake pedal as I described?

That is just the way they came from the factory.
