I used forever black on my disco II. The black trim had turned grey, and bubbled in some spots. I had been looking for replacement pieces with no luck. A buddy of mine with a few classic bimmers suggested I tried the forever black. I must say it is amazing. Every time I used to walk up to my truck that grey would just **** me off. Now I've found a new love for my LR funny how sometimes it's the little things. I also ended up sanding the bumps off and then re-coating with the forever black and now they look good as new.

 

I use the trim blackening kit made by Bondo that I picked up at my local Auto Zone. It has kept the grayed out trim on my Volvo and my D2 black for the past year and I still have enough left for a re-apply when the time comes. It comes with a bottle of blackening liquid and a foam applicator. I recommend using one of those foam paintbrushes to apply the liquid as the applicator block is kinda chunky and can get the stuff on your paint.

 

I've used both "Black Wow" and Mothers "Back to Black". For the smooth black trim I like Mothers Back to Black best.

 

Back to black works with several and i mean several applications but it is not end all be all. I actually have started using Turtle wax tire shine spray to get the finish back on the trim and bumper. It lasts longer, takes 1/4 of the time, and I would think give it a little more UV protection.

 

I agree with painting them. All of the plastic comes off pretty easily except the mirror where it pivots...I started with the rear door latchousing and now onto the flares. They have turned out great. Check out the latch cover below.
