Default Broke the key in half and had no choice but to put it in the ignition lock now what

We were on our way back from out boating trip to Guernsey Resivior in Wyoming and as I'm starting the truck at the mini mart I realize the end of the key is gone! After freaking out I luckily saw the key sitting on the ground. We were 170 miles from home in Denver so I had no choice I put the end in the ignition and hoped. She started and thank god we made it home.

The half a key is starting her no problem but how the hell do I get it out now.

Keep in mind I will not take it to a Locksmith. I know there is some way to rig this thing out of there.

Any ideas.

By the way the Disco towed awesome the whole weekend with a 3500lb. boat.

Did the metal part of the key actually break or did the key pop off the fob? The keys easily go back on the fob if that is what happened...just push the fob on there.

It broke in half, the fob is still attatched to the one half.

The easiest thing to use would probably be a key extractor, but the only place I know to get one is a locksmith or in a set of lock picks.

That said, essentially all a key extractor is, is a pair of steel wafers that are hooked at one end, sandwiched together and slightly bent apart so that they form a pair of thin tweezers. You might find something similar at a pharmacy...

Can you post a pic of this?
You are the second person to have this problem and I need to see it.

Just call a locksmith to get your old key out take those pieces to the dealership and get a new one cut, it will cost some cheddar but you will have a new key.
