Default Broken bracket on Drivers door hinge

Hello folks. I’m not sure what this little lever is for or what would cause the bracket to break like it did. Somebody in the past tried to weld it back to the painted metal, so now it just clanks about when you open and close the door.

Any ideas for a good fix, other than bringing it to metal and re-welding?

Door Check strap which keeps the door from opening to far. My guess is the previous owner or owners had kids & then pushed the door forward while climbing in/out.

Did the photo show up? It’s showing on my end. So this is like the webbing bit out into jeep doors, but metal?

Thanks for the help. After being in Germany I’m just now getting acquainted with my Rover that’s been sitting in Texas waiting for me.

Yes same function as the Jeep’s cloth strap.

Yep, support bracket for the check strap.
Because of the booger weld you might be stuck having to reweld it in place.
This would have been such a simple repair if the A$$Clown PO would have just fixed this right the first go around.
Good Luck!

X1 ................. agreed. forced the door open at some stage. Most vehicles have these in one form or another.
