Default burning excessive oil

hey everybody. so i have an '04 disco SE with roughly 22,450 miles on it. brought it in for its 22,500 mile maintenance check. the oil pressure light has been coming on and off and i told them to check out the problem. dealer did a oil consumption test and told me that the engine was burning too much oil. they are replacing the short block in the engine. thank god for warranty. wanted to know.....is this common in discos? is there anything i should be aware of in getting this basically "new" engine.....good or bad? by having this done, will it effect the car in the long run or in case i want to resell? any insight will be great. thanks.

No, it not common.
Its a good thing that the dealer is doing it.
Keep a the paper work and it will help the resale.
Just break it in right according to the book, use the right weight of synthetic oil
and check it and keep it full.
Do not go over on the oil change time or miles, but I bet you have not, if you had been
going over that you would not be getting a new motor under warranty.

Sounds like a good fix for an uncommon problem.
