buying a 2002 disco ii se
Hi everyone first I have to say this forum has been a huge wealth of info.
So I have made up my mind on 2002 disco series ii se with 117,000kms, service records except for the last year or around 11,000 kms, all for the decent price of $6500. Its from a dealer, and I think I am going to go for the extended warranty that includes seals and gaskets. I will also be taking it to a rover dealership to have them look at it.
I am not new to rovers my dad has always owned one, one 73' series III 88 done stock and restored by my father and I over 5 years, and a 73' series III 88 with a 3" lift 35x12" tires and a small block Chevy V8. You could say I have had rover rash since a young age, I just wish the new ones came with as many spear parts as the old ones
I go to see it on Saturday and hope to drive it home and post some pics.
Thanks again for all the info and help

Front drive shaft should be replaced or rebuilt if still stock oem. There are no grease fittings for some joints in the shaft, it will split and try to poke hole in transmission.
Heat gauge on D2 is computer contolled to point at 50% over very wide range. Check heat temp with a scanner. Consider having a mechanical gauge oil presure test done.

I once bought one from a dealer, no third party warranty company will cover them , so unless they are covering it themselves....
I ended up returning that disco as the dealer offered to cover it themselves but they were not a LR specialist

So I bought The Discovery!!! Now i have a hard time keeping it way from my wife!!
I will be starting the recommended 100,000 km service since the service records only go back to about 88,000 km, starting with the oil coolant and diff changes this weekend, or should I be doing it in a specific order? the u-joints are still in great shape as is the rest of the truck. but i wont leave them too long! ( I live in a small town and only drive about 5000 km a year).
Dose anybody have any input on coolant and oil flushing or cleaning before re-filling.
Also a I had a question about the hill decent, is the rapid chattering sound coming from behind the fire wall? is this normal? i was testing it on my driveway at work, its not very steep ( drops 6 ft over about 35 ft ).
Also i was wonder what the button on the right side of the speedo below the two buttons for the rear wiper and washer is for, it looks like a road with a bridge over it. i cant find anything in the owners manual about it.
Thanks again this forum is awesome !!!!!

mystery button is the cruise control. Flush coolant very well with a commercial flsuh product, don't replace coolant with Dexcool, switch to green 50/50 premixed, like Peak. Oil flush with a variety of products, including BG, which is only sold by repair shops.
AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! water fall sound behind the dash, and a tinny bit of white smoke from the tail pipe when I first start it in the morning!!! I have my ultragauge and new thremostat (180 degree) on order but I might be to late lol. glad I got the warranty!
Don't panic. Normal for some white condensation burnoff in cooler weather. You can purge air from coolant and see if bubbles return. A $50 ish chemical test, sometimes a loaner from part stores, will tell you if the bubbles are air, or also contain products of combustion from exhaust. Warranty good, don't wait too long. Keep coolant at proper level.
you bought it right? less than a week ago?
why are you fooling with it bring it back to where you bought it, let them deal with it. And why didnt you independent inspector find anything? or did he?

Yes I had it inspected and no he didn't find it. there was no water sounds in the dash or any other signs at the time, currently it only gurgles for about 10-15 seconds when i first start it up in the morning and then stops and will not return until it has sat over night. yes the coolant was low but is now topped up and i will bleed the system tonight, and see if the water sound comes back.all the hoses are warn but not to hot to touch, I would take it back but it is a 1 hr ferry and 200km drive back to the dealership. I am probably over reacting but would rather be cautious than not.
