bypass alarm system???
Help! when i got my 2000 DII a few months ago it did not come with a key fob. only a key. last night someone tried to break into it and gouged the lock assembly out of the driver door handle. and broke the handle also. i had no trouble getting in,,, the back windows do not work and can be pulled up and down by hand. I no longer have a driver door lock to put the key in to disable the alarm. it wont start, and i had to disconnect the battery to get the alarm to shut up. is there any way to maybe take the door panel off from the inside and manually do whatever turning the key in the lock would do? or? HELP!!!!!!!

dfdfdonna,
You may want to sit down before reading this. I'm about to give you some real bad news but then tell you how to get out of the jamb your in.
Are you sitting down?
Good.
Your DII is now a brick. It is dead and the only value it has it want a salvage yard will pay you to come pick it up or try and sell it on craigslist.
Without going into great detail the alarm system can only be turned off with a working fob. You would think unplugging the battery would reset everything but it does not.
So here is the good news and how to fix this for the minimum cost.
You will need to buy a Body control computer (BCU) and an engine control computer (ECU) that came from the same DII. These two computers communicate together. Your best bet are a couple of business that sell used Discovery parts. I will leave links below. Both of these together will be around $100.
While you are buying these ask to see if they have a drivers door handle with a key. Hopefully they do. That will be another $50.
Next buy a couple of new key fobs from Atlantic British. They will cost you about $250 each. Yes buy 2 so you don't get in this jamb again if you happen to lose a set of keys.
Then find the Nanocom rental thread and rent Brandon318's Nanocom. This is a small computer that plugs into the Discovery and will allow you to program the new keys. It will also be needed to change a setting in the new BCU so the odometer does not flash. Yes it will start flashing once you exchange the computer. The Nanocom is about $600 to buy it new so paying a nominal rental fee is well worth it.
Next disassemble the drivers door and install the replacement handle. (many threads on this site on how to do that)
Replacing the computers seems very challenging but will only take you maybe 1 hour. Most persons who have already have done it could do it in 15 minutes.
Then just have your local hardware store cut the keys to match your existing key. Your door key will be different but with a working fob it won't matter much.
So that's about it.
Spend around $700, do the work yourself and you will be back up running.
Good news, DII's with a good engine, paint and interior are going up in value so after 6 months these cost will be paid for.

Here are the links for parts sellers.
Also, try and get the computers from a 2000 DII and especially make sure they came from the same DII

I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. Contact British Bone Yard. Land Rover Specialists I've been to their shop and can attest to the volume of parts they have. Call Mark and explain what happened, and that you need a replacement door handle with key. Either swap it out or have it swapped if you're not up to the task. As mollusc says you should be able to at least disable the alarm this way. If you buy a matching ignition cylinder you can get by on a single key. Or, worst case is you have a key for the door and another for the ignition.

I don't remember the contact information, but there is a company in the UK that will ship a new keyless entry key and a programming device. You pay deposit for the programming device, and send it back when you are finished using it. I may be off somewhat, but I think it's around $100 net. Perhaps someone else here has the website for that company (JUKE189, maybe?).

Here is what I would do. The good news is that you are *in* the truck, most people's issue in this scenario is actually getting in the truck.
Remove interior drivers door panel
Remove the entire drivers outer door handle, including the knackered key cylinder
You should now be able to turn the rod to deactivate the alarm.. There is a rod (the one that always breaks) that goes back and turns a piece on the door actuator. If you turn that even with a screwdriver you will disable the alarm.
(the above is true UNLESS for some reason your truck is coded to not undo the alarm with key, which is a setting in Nanocom, I think this is also the default case in certain non US / random global markets too, but not sure which)
