Default Alarm Trouble

The alarm in my 97 Disco is funny. When I lock the doors with the key, as my remotes do not work, the alarm sometimes sets. It's pretty random when it does. When I go to unlock the doors with the alarm set, I have to turn the key and open the door at the same time otherwise the alarm goes off. Now, when it does go off the only way to disarm it is to re-lock and unlock the doors with the key until it stops sounding. I have tried putting the key in the ignition and starting it but that doesn't seem to work. Will having the remotes reprogrammed soolve the problem or maybe make it so it's not so random when the alarm gets set? Or is it the ECU that's freaking out?? Thanks for any replies.

Sounds like you probably have a bad lock actuator, most likely the drivers door.

Is that pretty easy to get at behind the door panel?

Would a failing actuator also cause the lock to not pop up all the way? I.E. I have to hold the lock up either by hand or with the turn of the key when I want to open the door.
