funny, just did a recharge on a range rover where a tech from another shop put in 4.9 lbs. Not 49 ounces. Apparently he thought 10 ounces equals one pound. The vehicle wasn't all that cold. But after putting in the equivalent of 3.1 lbs it ran nice and cold.

One thing we do in the shop is to vacuum out the moisture for a half an hour. Then add one ounce of dye and fill it up.

Oh and check for leaks right around the front where the line goes into the front grill. hard to see but look for oil leaks.

I didin't replace the drier, should have I? This is my first "non-beater" vehicle, so i'm learning new stuff every day
I usually replace the drier if the system has been opened. Probably not a "late model" vehicle, but definitely on an older car. As long as you pulled a good vacuum on it then you should be ok.

Hahahah, I bet that a/c wasn't running to swell with 4.9 lbs in it

Thanks for the info, I'll check around the front today to see if I have any leaks. I put in some flourescent dye, so hopefully it will show up if there's any leaks
