Default A/C Fan Burned Out On Settings 3 and 4

I have a 97 Disco with the A/C fan not functioning on settings 3 and 4. At first they worked, but it would cut out only occasionaly. The problem got progressively worse until they quit all together. I disasembled the dash and discovered that the plug for the fan switch is burned out for the 3rd and 4th settings. My problem now is that I don't know how to find a replacement plug. Anyone know where to find one? Also, is it possible to clean the original plug and have it be safe/reliable?

Besides the plug, you may find that your resistor pack may be bad, this is the most common fault for failing fan speeds since it regulates the speeds for you.

I have the same problem as you do # 4 and 1 work for me, it also cuts out on me too, i figure the switch is just not making good contact anymore, I have figured out how to manipulate the switch till im ready to get a new one. Atlantic British Ltd. and calling your local LR dealer, I have always heard dealer is high dont mess with them, Well I blowing that B.S. out of the water because its not always true, my dealer here in Texas is around the same prices as A.B. so i use both of them good luck

Default '99 Series I with very similar problem...

My fan switch works on 1, but not on 2-4. How do I remove the "face plate" (for lack of a better description)? I don't see any screws anywhere, and don't want to just pull it off if that's not the way to take it apart! Thanks!

I had the same problem, the actual switch was not making good contact and it heated the tabs melting them. take the switch and pull it apart ant see if ant of the little peices have sliped out of place or if you have to bend the contact pads to make good contact. if nothing is completly broken and you can get it to slide through all 4 positions and make contact, put some dielectric grease in it, throw it together and your good.
