Default A/C overheat at idle only

Ok I need some straws to grasp for here. My 2003 DII has new fan, heavy duty fan clutch, waterpump, radiator and 180 thermostat. Temps run 190-195 when moving and 199-204 idling with a/c off and ambient temps of 80ish. With the a/c on my temps run 190-195 when moving and 199-210 at idle for 10 minutes after that the temps rise to 227 in about 15 mins. I’m sure it would continue to rise but I get nervous and kick up the rpms and bring temps back down. The a/c has been vacuumed down and held for an hour with no change plus hi and lo pressures checked out good. Is this an airflow issue or a/c system issue or both. Not sure where to go from here. Also ir temps coincide with ug temps. I do know the ait temps hit 150 plus with a/c on and coolant temps rise but ait temps of 150 plus without a/c and idle temps stay 199-210

There is a fan in front of your radiator. Does it come on while ac is operating ?or when your temps rise ? If not than your ac system might be the cause of your temps rising because it’s adding heat

The a/c condensor fan comes on at the right times and temps. It also blows inwards just like the engine fan

You've done most of what I would suggest. Grab an in expensive IR temp gun/sensor and see if there are any cool spots in your radiator. You've indicated that it is new(ish) but things can happen anyway.

What coolant are you using? Green or orange?

Also use a high pressure washer & make sure the condenser core & radiator are free of bugs & debris.

I’ve checked radiator and it’s nice and even across it maybe a 10 degree difference from top to bottom. When system replaced it was still using dexcool without issues so replaced with dexcool again. System was replaced as maintenance and the increased temps when a/c on thinking that was the issue. Plus time and age wise it was due. When I run a/c it cools like always has even at idle. I will give the condensor a once over and spray it down good both front and back. I did hit a deer this last winter and did notice some of the fins on the condensor look bent so maybe I should replace that. Also throwing in a new coolant temp sensor, it’s cheap and easy. I do notice that the compressor throws off a ton of heat when I open the hood and shoot the temps on radiator and hoses. Appreciate any suggestions this one has me scratching my head

You are on the right track with air flow. The only other suggestion is your clutch fan not moving enough air at idle, I know you said it's new, but your symptoms are in line with that if cleaning or replacing the condenser doesn't fix. If you can, try and blow the excess water out of the condenser/radiator with air before you start it, kind of tight quarters though... I had the exact issue a few years ago and new clutch fan fixed it, but my clutch fan was pretty old if not original.

Also you can choose from Standard, HD, and Severe rated fan clutches. I prefer HD/Severe.

Mine has recently done this, and it seems intermittently. I looked at the connector to my AUX fan and it was badly corroded. I cleaned that up and no change, but seemed minutely better.

Today,I bled my cooling system to see if I could get an air bubble out, no bubble, but upon testing the A/C my AUX Fan did not come on. It’s 82 degrees on the Climate Control and that is within the parameters for the Aux fan to come on. So I detached and reattached, now the fan AUX fan came on.

So, possibly my Aux fan has been intermittent. I got a micro screwdriver and bent the connection within the female end of the AUX fan plug to make better contact. Hopefully, that takes care of it.

Good luck with it. That would be a nice cheap easy fix. I haven’t had a chance to try some of the suggestions I’ve gotten. My son has been driving it so going to have to pull a relay out and tell him I don’t know why it won’t start😁
