Cam Shaft Endplay
In the process of rebuilding 4.6
I have read the RAVE manual regarding cam Endplay but thought I'd get another opinion
cam gear is fitted to camshaft, doesn't seem like it mates up all the way with the bolt tight. New cam gear, new chain. Original camshaft
Cam shaft as considerable amount of play. Rave says to replace thrust plate but I don't see any wear on it.

Some end play in a cam is normal. All the loves are worn with a taper which is meant to make the lifters rotate, but it also pushes the cam backwards. Small block Chevy's didn't even used to have any form of cam retention, so end play is really a bit of a non issue unless you've got some kind of strange wear.
