Is this cam worn out?
It's hard to tell from the pics. They almost look pitted, but it could be the oil film? Clean it off with brake cleaner, and see what it looks like.
The 4.6 cam is, If I recall, a more aggressive profile than the 4.0 cam - so if I were changing cams on a budget, I'd buy one of those instead of the 4.0 -or you can go straight to the 229 or 230...

I'll have to mic everything. may just go for a crower cam and lifters and new bearings.
My camera is 10 years old with only 2MP so, pictures are not so good. overdue for a new camera. I think my phone has more MP than this old thing.
So do the genuine rover front bearings have the swirled oil grooves?
I suppose if I'm going to do this I should just do everything, but not flanged liners just pinned liners.

I doesn't look bad in that pic the first set of pics, it looked like one was ride on casting flash next to the lobe of the cam.
I am not sure what the stock cam bearing look like but i assume they are smooth like everyone else.

The first lobe on the front end goes to #1 and here are pictures of #1.
I don't think it was riding on the casting because the casting line on the flash is not touched.
I know my pics are hard to see.
Thanks to everybody for all the help.
BTW, while all of you smart people are here in one place, could you take a look at my thread "slow cold start" and help me get that figured out? went to a fireworks thing last night and didn't crank the truck for about 4 hours and had to spin the engine for about 20 revolutions to get started. Getting worse.

Maybe fuel pressure is screwed due to something leaking down? I'm going out to test the fuel pressure now. that's if I can get the valve.
I'll update my finding on the other thread "slow cold start"
thanks
thanks for pointing that out. That may be a finished place from when they were grinding the cam, non of the lifters look buggered but, after tearing this completely down today, I see I am going to have to change all bearings, cam, main and rod bearings. so might as well buy a new cam and lifters too.

The one on the right (obviously) was my old one. There were enough uneven wear patterns on the lobes for me to replace it. To be honest it is very hard to tell just by looking at them if theyre worn, but mine did look worse than yours does.
As an aside, my new cam is a crower 229 (left). Now that it has worn in and the computer readjusted the fueling, I can definitely feel a power difference.
thanks for the pics.
thanks, where did you buy it and how much? did you get crower lifters also?
