I paid about $20, and had to cut off some plastic connectors.

Found the link. More Information for GATES 23405

It's the Gates 23405, detailed in the write up. $18.

I'm sure other hoses will work. Just that my experience with this one was great.

I believe that's just a generic. Hose picture. At least that's what it says. That's the part number that was in one of the multitude of write ups. I could be wrong though, so anyone that wants to chance it and find out for sure, be my guest!

That inline mod and Alex's hood strut are still the quickest, cheapest, most satisfying things I have ever done on my Disco and beat all of the other things I have done on it by a country mile. Until Alex tells me how to put for Ford diesel and one ton axles in my rover with simple hand tools, I think those two mods will stay at the top of the list.

There are also some block plugs on the side of the engine (I've never actually paid attention to them... I just read about them) that if removed, ensure that all coolant and settled gunk in the coolant system come out of the block. I think Number9 brought them to my attention. Anyway, it is imperative not to mix Dexcool and the Prestone so if you switch, look for those plugs. You will maximize the first drain as well as get little bits of whatever settled near the plugs.

Last time I swapped my engine I found two perfect acorns in the upper radiator hose right next to my inline thermostat. Go figure. The live oaks that shield my house from Google's prying eyes and threaten to squash it whenever we have high winds also shade my rover work area. For the record, acorns in the coolant do not help nor hurt temps, at least PRIOR to the thermostat. I think enough of the "drunken acorns" scattered around might solve my squirrel problem, though.

You'll never get a Ford swap out if me, but maybe a Duramax from a Chevy

Honestly, it just might happen. A few years from now buy a second Disco to turn into a road trip/tow rig. 4 linked Ford 9 in the rear, independent suspension in the front, Duramax swapped, tube bumpers, chopped and half caged, stick the tires out wide for the prerunner look and lengthen the wheelbase for towing, goose neck hitch in the back with one full length hard top and one short soft top to use if I'm pulling a goose neck. Reinforce the frame some more. Upgraded air bags in the rear, too.

Charlie, my future wallet hates you.

This is the hose I used for the inline mod. lower hose for 2001 bmw. Have to trim a little bit off the end that goes on the radiator. Gates 22639 Lower Radiator Hose | eBay

Thanks for all the thoughts on this cooling system deal. I've got to wrap my head around cutting up the Rover. On my Jeep (1946 CJ2A), I have no problem whacking into stuff and modding the heck out of anything. (Chevy 350 transplanted in there right now).

But the Rover is just different. A classy lady, we named her "Ella". Makes me wonder if I should just get the original grey thermostat and see if that fixes it, and if it does, just be happy...but then the other half of me wonders if I won't be kicking myself that I didn't do the mod.

Mod, mod, mod.

Never regret it. It's no different to the Jeep. I sold my ZJ for the Disco.

My rover is a Bourbon Street hooker! But she runs cool and hasn't blown a head gasket on two engines (don't ask) since I did the inline thermostat mod.
