Default Can I put a 2000 Engine in a 2004 without anything else?

I may have dropped a sleeve on a 2004 DiscoII. I found a 2000 Disco Rover and I can take the engine.
1. Can I?
2. I know the 2000 is a 4.0 and my engine is a 4.6L so that means I should at least swap out the ECM?
3. What else?
4. Will it bolt up to the tranny without issue?

Thanks Everyone!!!

Sorry to hear your engine problem. You have been working on that for a while and now you have a crack block or something. Check with your DMV also. I know the inspection registers the VIN or what in their system. Not sure about that but someone here might know.

When sleeve moves it comes up and hits the head but doesn't drop below cylinder surface, are you sure it has moved, & how loud does it get, have you tried running it cooler by doing an inline thermostat mod & a lower temp T-Stat,? (Like a 170*f),
It might quiet it down or might not but worth a shot & wont cost much,
But if you want to replace with 4.0 you can it will bolt right in, but you want to keep your ECM because you have a 04 & it will need it for locking CDL, & trans to function properly, because they both are different from a 2000 D2, if I were you & had to change engine, I would look for a P38 Range Rover 4.6 engine. It will bolt right in & you will use your 04 accessories on it that are a little different, like oil filter elbow, etc,,, P38 engines are a little more robust with better blocks.

SAI on the 04 is gonna be the only real issue. You'll have to just swap over the heads from the 04 onto the 4.0L engine & everything shouldn't have to be touched.

CDL is handled thru the SLABS Unit not the engine ECU.

Thanks!
The 2000 has SAI. So there should be no issues, right? Use same heads and all....

So I can keep my 4.6L ECM with the 4.0L engine, correct?
