Default Can I remove Secondary Air Injection (SAI)?

I've cursed SAI no less than 66 times during this engine swap. Either the search function on the forum doesn't work (probably operator error), or no one has asked yet (which I can't believe). What's involved? First, consider that I plan to keep this truck forever. Also, my state (AK) has no emmissions requirements. That said:

Can the heads (and everything else) just be plugged?
Is the ECU going to throw codes?
If I did sell it, could I put it all back on?

I'm guessing you could plug it, but you'll definitely get codes. Sorry, I don't have a definitive answer for you.

You can, but my understanding is that you will need a computer from a non-sai truck or you will get codes. Word on the street is that the sai is somehow "hardwired" to the ecu. I have done some research on this very topic and it appears as though there may be a computer you can buy that can do it (blackbox solutions I believe), but I haven't had time to really follow up.

Here's their web address: http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/

Anything is possible, but it wouldn't be legal. That said depending on the year of the truck, you'd need an ECM from a non-sai disco and you might need a different fuel pump as some of the later LEV trucks had a different way of doing the evep emissions tests. If you need a different fuel pump, you'd probably have to wire in the pressure sensor manually. There are some good discussions on discoweb about this subject.

Good info, but if I have to buy a new ECU to get it to take, it's probably not worth it. I'm not concerned about the legality issues though. I'll look at blackbox just for curiosity though. Thanks!

An ecu would be pretty cheap used, $50 or so, but you'd have to get it synced up with the rest of the car or else the engine won't run.

@#$!!! I just want to rip all this SAI crap out, throw it in a pile (a BIG one!), light it on fire and dance around it. Feels like I'm handcuffed to Jane Fonda...doesn't really slow me down but and high maintenance darned annoying!

you would need to put in an ECU / ECM from a NON SAI rover.
and mate it with the BCeM.
Then you may not get codes.
But, who knows.

That's definitely a conundrum... Being chained to Jane Fonda. On one hand, you want to do something naughty. On the other hand, you want to do something not acceptable, like smack her upside the head.
