Default Can you see where it's leaking?

Hey guys,

I have a 2001 DII SD with 151k. It's leaking and I can't tell if it's from the Oil Pan, Transmission, or both? What do you think? Also, what kind of a project am I in for in? The oil pan gasket doesn't look to bad, but the main seal for the transmission? I've never done that before:

Not sure I would worry with a slight leak. But that prop shaft - if that is not fully greaseable at all joints (not oem, would have to be rebuilt like in our tech area or after market) - that would be something to deal with before it splits without warning and thrashes hole in tranny case.

Seems like if tranny fluid it would be more red in color. How much fluid loss do you have on the dip stick? Many owners would be happy to have an engine this clean. Clean it off and see where it come from in a few weeks? White Shepherd oil stop leak product?

Note that valve covers need to be snugged up every oil change (8mm 12 point 1/4 inch drive socket). Oil from up high will eventually find a way to the bottom.

That loks like an original prop shaft, have you rebuilt/replaced it yet?

Prop shaft? I just bought this car last week to move a boat trailer around when needed. It won't be my daily driver. Being the case, ya'll think it'll be ok to just keep the fluids topped off with a leak like this? It's a few drops a day nothing to bad but I haven't had the car long enough to notice any movement on the oil dip stick and second, where's the transmission dip stick?

Third, what's the deal with this shaft? Sounds like something I need replaced right away?

I'm not sure how to identify if the shaft is OEM, does this help:

Need a photo of the double cardon to see if there are grease fittings. If you can shoot a photo of the other end of the prop shaft that would be helpful.

If you plan to do any DRIVING AT ALL with this vehicle, you need to ensure the drive shaft has been replaced with a greasable model or rebuilt with grease fittings. It will grenade and take out your transmission.

I would just top off the fluid depending on leaks. If it's a rear main seal it's a LOT of labor.

Tranny dipstick was eliminated. You fill using attached procedure, which is part of the shop manual called the RAVE. Free download of the whole thing below.

Boating? These images come to mind....
