Default Can't shift into D1

Hey guys - I will post a video soon - my 2002 D2 can shift out of park - reverse - D3 and 2 but not 1. I have to force the level harder than feels necessary and the light goes off from D2 but does illuminate for D1 and I cannot get the shifter into that drive mode.

Also - I feel like my transfer case is not all the way in 4high. It shifts fine into 4 low but when I bring it back it feels a little loose and a little higher like it hasn't quite got into gear. I have a high pitch whine at hwy speeds which I think is related to the transfer case as well and am looking for an 04 case to swap in.

Any advice?

Have you done the obvious :

Checked the fluid levels and condition of the fluids transfer case and transmission - check the RAVE for the procedure
Remove the bezel (the plastic thing on the console with the gear markers) make sure there is nothing blocking the shift lever travel
Take a look underneath and make sure there is no obvious damage

QAll fluids have been changed in the last year - I removed shift bezel and inspected this morning - no obvious damage from below either.

EDIT: Scratch that I went out and double checked and there were more broken plastic bits still under the bezel. Got it and it shifts now. Woo-hoo!

Still have some t-case issues tho.

I’d personally loosen the 13mm nut that secures the PRND321 linkage and give it like 1-2mm more slack. Then test it’s operation.

Doesn't look like it's in all the way

Yep broken bits will definitely mess things up! I’ve found plenty of change on D2’s in that spot
