Catalytic Converters
Should be ok, how many miles have you put on them? I would worry about your cats first. If you start to throw codes, go from there. I think you will like your new cats...
OK, I've been to the shop today. Todays visit to the mechanic cost me $400 in labor, plus additional $185 in parts and supplies or so. Total just under $600.
All they did was install the new Magnaflow cats and change my transfer case fluid, and also they rotated the tires and inspected my DBA rotors for signs of caliper malfunction or some other such thing. I did the breaks a couple of months ago, that cost me about $500 in parts and labor, DBAs+GreenStuff+ss hoses. The caliper was acting a bit sketchy, but I couldn't afford to replace it and now it seems fine.
The mechanic justified highlabor charges on that Magnaflows weren't plug-n-play; a piece of piping had to be fabricated and welded in at least on one side.It took them 5.5 actual hours for everything. They started at noon, I was out of there at5:30pm. Check engine lightis still on; a few minutes ago I disconnected the battery; we'll seeif thisdid the trick. If not, O2 sensors might bebad. The truck does seem to accelerate better, not to mention it doesn't sound like aused and abusedWWII tank anymore. We'll see if MPGs improve as well...
What you guys think, did I pay too much?

We all had the same issue with the install, and you saw what we paid. That said, I don't know what people charge per hour, and you had additonal things done. Plus he checked over your truck. I would say ok. But that's why I don't take my truck in. $80 an hour seems steep to me. Why didn't they re-set your CEL? did you have it re-set before you went in?
The didn't reset it because they're not Land Rover people; just a generic shop. In fact, they probably didn't do it because the only guy who knows how to use the diagnostic equipment was either busy or gone home, or was having a sig and sippin' somethin' out of a brown bag - who knows. After having disconnected the battery I drove the car to the grocery store and back - one mile each way - the check engin is not on, and so far hasn't come back on. Guess if it stays off for a couple of days I win. Some people paid $200 for install, and I paid $400, and I had to cry for it as they wanted more money. The did however dothe transfer case, which is worth a few bucks, and rotated tires, which I could do at home but that may have caused me to brake a sweat or something... I'm in D.C. area, so may be it's just more expensive here, as is rent etc.
ok, yeah, you are ok. I did the fuel storage out at BWI. It is really expensive out there. We had to replace the rear end on a Ford (not my choice) work truck we had. I could have bought a whole truck for what I got charged. I complained, but thought I might get stabbed if I went too far.
It is ok, just sit in the a/c and sip some ice tea. At least you know it is done and won't worry about it. FYI, the CEL is OBDII run, so any generic scanner can re-set the light. Even the ones you can rent at parts stores will re-set the light. To read the ECU and ABS codes, you have to get rover-specific.

I know this is an old thread but I am looking to get the Magnaflow 94004s installed on my 2004 D2 and I am wondering if anyone has any pictures of this installation? It looks like a custom piece will be required on both sides, but especially on the pancake passenger side Cat, any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Travis
