When I got the whole setup for my 03 the guys that pulled it off cut the diff lock cable. So what I saw was the bracket that connected the nipple to the cable was only a inch shorter than the hi low bracket, so I just bought another hi low cable and made a new bracket that was a inch longer. It works fine for me!

Nice solution.

I have a 2000. Am I imposing too much to ask someone to just tell me what I need to buy and connect, in baby talk because that's what I will understand, to get mine set up? I have watched the videos for the kit install but it is too expensive for something I may never use. Bone yard and pick it pull it parts and motorcycle shop parts I could definitely swallow...

As I understand it you need a shifter that goes sideways and pulls a cable to the nipple on the side of the transfer case. I've never seen this except in the video. Why the heck land rover would not hook up a feature like that is beyond me

look around and find a D1 shifter, it will vibrate a little more than the cable but does the job. They can be had for $100-150. try paul grant he probably has one hanging around

On a related note, on a D2 which needs the front cone swapped, is the wiring there for the diff lock sensor switch or does something need to be rigged up?

EDIT: I found a great article here which addresses the question of wiring the diff lock sensor: http://landroverclubvi.weebly.com/2003cdlinstall.html

In many cases the wiring is ready and waiting but if it isn't, this article tell you how to wire it yourself.

I've seen some hook up a little hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder for diff lock at the push of a button....

Mine has the little nut that I can turn to get lock. The problem is that you have to get under the truck to switch it on and off. Not ideal. I'm not sure what is meant by changing out the cone, and I did not know that a position sensor would be required. Looks like I need to do a little Googling. Thanks for the input fellas!

Some D2's didn't come with a CDL transfer case. You could swap the cones on those to add the CDL.
