Default CDL Light

Hey guys,

When the P/O of my '99 Disco II (now 115k), had the transmission go out, he replaced it with a used (20k miles) transmissions and transfer case from an '04. So, I have the '04 style CDL setup. Also, the wire to the SLABS has that disables the traction if the truck is started locked has been cut.

My buddy and I did some extensive research in an unplowed parking lot last time observing the handling differences between lock and unlock. It was very interesting, and insanely fun.

At any rate, a few times when I've kicked it into lock (at a stop of course), my CDL light won't come on for a little while, and when it does it will flicker on and off intermittently. It worked just like it's supposed to last night (light comes on after a few feet when the lock drops in), but other times it's been more intermittent.

Do you suppose the problem is with the lock, or just the sensor/light?

Thanks.

And happy Thanksgiving!

just sounds like a loose blub or bad ground to me..I wouldn't worry about it..probably drive yourself crazy trying to track it down.

First, don't go play in a parking lot with the CDL unless you are wanting to go see your mechanic after wards.
As for the light being slow to come on, it is normal.

Mike,

Thanks for the warning. I will refrain in the future. Just out of curiosity, whats the danger? I can see the danger if it was a surface with any sort of traction (I know better than that), but if it's 100% packed snow?

Thanks

-max (the newbie)

No, there are no worries on snow pack.
The problem with driveline windup occurs when there is good traction, like on pavement, and the tires can't slip on the surface. I've never seen snow conditions where the tires can't slip some.
