Default CDL Problem

I am hoping someone can help me, I am supposed to drive about 8hrs tomorrow. I am new to Discovery's, Colorado, & this forum. I have a 96 Discovery 1.
Here's what is happening: I was able to lock my CDL into low, but now, the light in the dash will not go off, no matter if it is in high or low. The tone sounds when it is in neutral. It seems to feel like low is not still engaged when I'm driving, but how can I know? I really don't want anything to break on our road trip with my wife & daughter.
Thanks,
James

What does the light on the dash look like. If the t-case lever is in the lower right corner you are in unlocked (CDL) and in Hi range. Pushing the lever forward wil put you in Lo range. Moving the lever to the left (from either of those 2 positions) will lock the CDL. If you're in Lo the truck will only go 35 mph. If the CDL is locked and you do tight figure 8's on dry pavement you will feel a shudder as the driveline starts to bind.

Try this , engage low box, then difflock, drive the car forward for a few yds to make sure the dash light it is on. Then switch to high box, dis-engage the CDL and drive a bit more fwds, if it still does not put the light out, then reverse the truck for say 200yds, that "should" put the light out.

The dash light is yellow & looks like the four wheels, drive line, etc. It is in between the check engine & battery on left.

Thanks everyone, Disco Mike recommended that I take it to a car wash & rinse the linkage etc. that seemed to do the trick. I guess it was stuck in Lock Hi. I don't think the previous owners ever used it, when I asked the lady about it when I bought the car she said she didnt really even know what it was, I dont know if I should laugh, or cry, lol. At least I can hit the highway now.

That's common to every D1 out there with owner's that never offroad. Sadly it's a very large percentage of the D1 population. After 12 years, you may have been the first person to lock the CDL.
