Changed rotoflex and Watts linkage - now a hot/friction smell
I agree, they will not coast in the SAME direction with the brake on, but they will (and should) spin in opposite directions. But, maybe I'm missing something, late night and this AM is a bit fuzzy.
Sounds like a broken axle shaft. If one wheel spins with the ebrake on and one does not, when you release the ebrake the wheel that wasn't spinning should. Also with both wheels off the ground you should be able to rotate a wheel and have the other side rotate the opposite direction as mentioned earlier.
I was coming to that conclusion myself, too. Will do some more diagnostics tomorrow -- e-brake on, off, etc.
Anyone have any idea how much a replacement half-shaft is going to cost?

New, $500 and way up. Like > AXLE SHAFT - RH REAR DISCOVERY II, RND690, TOD100020 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts
Used (I'm shocked at these prices) > Discovery Rear Axle Shafts
abran or Paul Grant can probably help you out as well.

Okay, I don't think it's a half-shaft either. But I'm definitely not happy.
Up on axle stands, in neutral, with parking brake off (front wheels chocked, naturally).
- If I spin the driveshaft, both wheels will turn
- If I spin either wheel, the other wheel will rotate in the opposite direction and the driveshaft will rotate
- However, I can hold any of the three points stationary (driveshaft or either wheel) and still rotate the other(s) in either direction
So... it certainly seems like my rear differential is screwed. In order to be able to move the truck around I have removed the rear driveshaft and locked the CDL.
If I pull the diff apart and the half-shafts are in good shape, does it make sense to replace the entire rear axle, or just do the crown assembly?
