Default Charcoal Canister

My ECU works fine with the exception of it keeps the charcoal canister open, so it floods the canister, and the engine stops. If I disconect the plug to the canister, it runs great, but the check engine light comes & stays on. Can I trick the ECU too avoid buying a new ECU? Would a resister shorted between the canister plug work? Thanks for any help!!!

Have you checked out your purge valve, could be the problem.

I'll check that out. I hope that works. I don't want to buy a new ECU. Thanks

You shouldn't have to buy a new ECU, just repair the carbon canister.
Let us know how it turns out.

I already had the dealership (Reno on vacataion) replace the canister (as per their suggestion). They told me it was an ECU glitch & to replace it at $3200. The dealership in Tacoma wanted $3600 + $400 installation. Thanks

Have you considered a used ECU, check out e-bay, I see them there quite often, other wise there are always people parting out trucks with good prices.

I tried replacing my old ECU with a used one, and that is the one with the glitch in the canister controls. Thanks!

You may know this, it is my understanding that a ECU needs to be
coded to the vehicle to work right.
