Default charging system

Whats happening here?? When I start my disco 2, the alternator is kinda weak, then when I give it a quick rev, the alternator charges properly. I just replaced the drive belt 3 mos ago. What is this magic going on?? Is it a pulley or is the alternator screwed??

What symptoms indicate the alternator is "kinda weak?"

If you are relying on the dash gauge to tell you you have a weak alternator DON'T. JMO D*

Not too sure about kinda weak, because battery is always charged. Maybe a pulley? Sometimes I think I hear belt slap at start up when cold. All I know is that when I first start the motor, hot or cold, the "system" is not charging and I have a low idle. Then I gun the throttle quickly, and I have a healthy Idle and charge to battery.

Low idle speed is not a symptom of a bad alternator.

it is possible that the regulator in the alternator is going bad and it has to be run up over a certain rpm to start working. You can pull the alternator off and take it in and have it tested to tell you if that is the problem or if your problem is elsewhere.
