Default Charging system

I don't have a scanner. But at this moment, I am guessing. Would a fault in the charging system, I.E. alternator or battery, appear as "service engine soon" ? My little battery light is on now, and usually just disappears, too. This is my Thanksgiving reward for the holidays.

Will not get SES light or codes unless the low battery/charge voltage was causing other system's issues such as trans going into limp mode.

New battery, so I will take in alternator for rebuild, and go from there. Meanwhile, will get service engine code from someone.

And on the subject of SES codes, is the fuel delivery system excluded as well? Such as fuel pump or filter ?

Normally, you have to use a external gauge to monitor fuel pressure (gasoline). Quite a few diesel engines monitor fuel pressure from the factory, and will set an DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) if readings are below/above specification. But, if the sensor/sending starts leaking on a diesel....there is less chance of an engine fire.

Some folks will permanently attach a external gauge to a gasoline fuel system, but this is somewhat dangerous...if the sensor/sender starts leaking...you better have an extingisher handy. Not many automotive companies are willing to take a chance at installing a fuel pressure sensor/sender on a gasoline engine...they have enough problems as it is.

Brian.
