Default Cheap Bastard Lift

There are a number of write ups but Im being asked if I could go into more detail on how I did my cheap bastard lift. Most of it is self explanatory or thats my own opinion. I wasn't expecting to do any sorta write up so Ive forgotten some tools I used.

I will cut and paste the thread below..
I used some fj80 springs (45usd). Color codes are:

-19" Double Purple Light blue white 7.5 wrap
-19.25 Double Purple Dark Blue White 8wrap <-this one went on my drivers side
-The rear springs on my discovery went to the front of the truck. Color codes were brown/green.
- 4 brand new OME Sport Shocks.
- 4 new bolt for the rear spring plates. I can't remember the length I bought. Id take one off and bring it to a hardware store after removal. But I think I went another inch to accommodate the gap between the axle perch on the top of the spring plate. Later Im going to put a metal spacer between the axle and spring plate so its more secure. OverRover provided the bolt info below.
-Tires 275/45R20 Nokians (29.7" diameter)

I would look at this thread and use the Toyota FJ80 coils when reinstalling everything. Its a good write up. This only think you are doing is replacing the rear Discovery coil springs with the Toyota FJ80 coils springs. Remember they are the ones used on the front of the Land Cruiser. I think thats what is confusing some people as Im getting asked by some about it. The Discovery coil springs just just removed from the rear of your truck will be going onto the front of your Discovery. Its very simple procedure. Ive chronic back pain so it takes me a little longer and I can't move like I used to. With five being the more difficult and 1 being the easiest... Id give this mod a two.

4x4Wire - Land Rover Discovery OME Spring and Shock Install

I didn't have to replace any of my brake lines but I did remove the rear so I could drop the axle enough to get the Cruiser springs on. The fronts can stay on. Might be a good time to completely flush out your brake system.

On flipping the spring plate.... its pretty much self explanatory. The Rover springs are the same diameter from the top of the spring to the bottom. The Land Cruiser springs are not. The larger diameter end on the cruiser spring goes to the top. The smaller part goes onto the axle perch. It will not fit over the spring plate so you must turn the spring plate over. The Cruisers coil fits perfectly into the hole. Now just bolt it down with the new bolts. Use at least an 8.8 grade bolt. Thats all there is to it. It really is that simple but it seems to confuse a lot of people.

OE rear bolts (RYG101360 now / KYP500250) are M10 x 25mm. I don't remember the pitch, but I would guess 1.75 >
Get Grade 8 bolts. Good Luck!

I think that pretty much does it. Im am capable of doing the lift I just need information on one thing. The bolts for the rear spring plate. Im not able to just remove a bolt as I don't have another vehicle during the time I can do the lift. So I need to find out the specs of the bolts used so I can buy a longer bolt. I have tried a search with no information on what I need. I will keep looking for now. I guess they might be 5mm just don't know the pitch used.

Anyone?
So are you putting your rear springs on the front and putting the 80 springs on the back? What is the claimed lift for this set-up? I was thinking of homebrewing a lift but using OME heavy rear springs but if the 80 series springs work I'll probably do this lift with you.

Its not a huge lift... only about two inches. But if you can get a used set of OME front 80 series springs and a set for the rear for a Discovery that should yield you over three inches maybe four for the HD coils as its a good three inch lift for 80's.
If a stock spring yields two inches than I would think to reason an OME HD coils for the 80 would yield at least four for a D. Like I said on an 80 series its a three inch lift. I ran a set on my FZJ80 and thats what I got.

So to clarify you are using the 80 series springs on the back and your stock D2 springs on the front? 2" is fine with me, I just want to run 265/75/16's.

I did the lift today. The front went very fast and the rear took me about two hours due to some stubborn bolts. This all includes bleeding brakes.

I used some fj80 springs (45usd). Color codes are:
19" Double Purple Light blue white 7.5 wrap
19.25 Double Purple Dark Blue White 8wrap <-this one went on my drivers side.

The rear springs on my discovery went to the front of the truck. Color codes were brown/green.

I bought a set of brand new Old Man Emu Sport Shocks for 225usd. The whole lift gained three inches in the front and almost 2.40 in the rear. The truck seems to sit level. I drove it after bleeding the brakes and its a huge improvement over what came from the factory.
Little more stiffer than stock and with the OME shocks it helps out on huge dips and bumps. Ive driven over the same terrain several times a week for about three years. So when I took the truck out and test drove it I could feel a big difference in how she handles. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get at least two inches of lift but doesn't want to spend, or doesn't have, the money for a new lift. I think any quality shock would work I just happen to favor OME.
