Cheap disco to flip/part
Decisions, decisions.... I came across someone parting out a 2001 D2, they haven't started parting it out yet, and would rather sell the whole vehicle to an enthusiast. Apparently the engine overheated and cracked something so it sounded like a motorcycle, so they had a shop get a used engine. She said the engine the shop got was from a later year and wouldn't work. (SAI vs non SAI?)
Here are my thoughts: Either flip it, or part it out. I have a spare set of heads that are non-SAI and machined and ready for install, if the "bad" engine is still in the vehicle. Or, if a 4.6L SAI is in it, I could either throw my non-SAI heads on it to flip it, or pull the lower end and put it in my 4.0L at some point in the future if I decide to part it.
I can get it for $700. Thoughts?

Just got off the phone with her. She said interior is in decent condition but the driver's seat is cracked. Biggest issue is the windshield. She said it looks like someone threw a brick at it
The engine is out of an '03. Cranks but doesn't start. I'm not too worried about the engine, but I dpn't want the expense of the windshield.

Windshield will definitely be a problem (around $300 on a blind guess) and the seat being reupholstered will probably be in the ballpark of another $100. If the engine cranks then it can be made to run, especially if you're replacing the top end.
I can get a windshield installed for about $250. I've asked the seller for interior pictures, as I think that is going to be the deciding factor. If the interior is trashed, I'm going to walk away.
Although.... there are things I could use to replace the broken bits on my own, and I could at least break even if I part it out, couldn't I?

Yea, you could beak even and then a little by parting out. It will just take time and it will take up a lot of space, then you'll have to tow it or pay someone to tow it to a junk yard or metal recycler, possibly with missing driveline/steering/suspension components and no rims if you're me.
