whats the best way to check for error codes in a 98 disco, or should i just take it to a local auto parts shop and they will have the error code book? any information is deemed helpful.

Default RE: check engine light on

Any place with a OBDII compliant scanner can plug into your vehicle and read engine management related Codes. However, the Codes related to other systems in the vehicle, such as suspension or climate control requires an Autologic or equiv. scanner. The latter type of scanner costs approx. $15K so only speciality service shops typically have one of these.

P.S. Once you have the Codes, you can post them here and we will help you intepret them
