I'm confused. If it's built on an LR4 chassis, how is it a 1968 Series IIa? I can understand converting an old IIa chassis to accept coils and still calling it a Series IIa but is there a single part on that truck that was originally on a Series IIa?

 

^^^ That was essentially my thought too. It's an LR4 with different body panels.

Sure it's nice, but it's misleading to call it a '68.

 

I remember seeing plenty of Series hybrids. They were Series Rovers that were converted to coil springs. That was often accomplished by fitting the Series body panels on a 100" wheelbase chassis taken from a DI or RRC. It was a nice upgrade with disc brakes, a V8 or even a turbo diesel. At least, in the end, they still looked like Series Rovers. The monster in this thread has absolutely nothing in common with a Series Rover from 1968.

If you're going to take liberties like these guys did, why not call it a 1948 Series I or better yet, the long lost center steering Series prototype.

Here's what a 1968 Series IIa 109 looks like. It has leaf springs all around, drum brakes all around, a 2.25L petrol or diesel engine, part time four wheel drive, manual steering, manual brakes, a single barrel carburetor, no real dashboard and headlights on the breakfast, not the wings (at least not until 1969).

Interesting and maybe cool custom truck depending on your tastes, but it ain't no '68 Rover.

 

I love it. And the price is fair if the workmanship is solid.

 

kinda like the Mercedes box looking SUV, 100$ + grand for the v8 the over $200k for the v12. to bad land rover and Mercedes doesn't make the same body style but cut out all the electronics crap and make an all manual setup with a good mid size reliable motor and price it around $30k. but i guess that's where Jeep comes into play.

 

thats exactly where keep comes into play. In my opinion those wranglers are just busted defenders and a poor attempt at it. The Mercedes g wagon I've actually owned 1 and to be honest it's just as capable off road as any Land Rover. Remember for 50+ years before people were wanting a G or was an army vehicle in EU
