I like the inexpensive modification. I have been looking for a cheap alternative to installing 33's and have no problem cutting and modifing metal as opposed to springs & shocks. With a bit of trim around the cuts (bushwacker type flairs) it will look great.

The problem is that you are talking about shocks/springs from '99-'04 with 70k-150k on them and we all know that they are wornout.... So you will have to replace them anyway...

Why not just replace them with OME and get a true lift? Buying OME shocks/springs is no more expensive then going to NAPA/AutoZone/Etc and buying shocks and springs (stock height) there.

However, I don't think the guy who started this thread was trying to do it "cheap" but more for the stability of keeping the weight low and sticking his tires WAY out there. From the looks of those rims I am sure he could have purchased a 3in OME kit and some spacers for his stock rims + still ran his 33in tires (which are actually 32in anyway).

I personally don't like this look on a D2 but that just my opinion and i still like seeing what others do to the D2.

Now my 2 cents is that I wouldn't put this much time and effort into a "trail rig" without changing the springs/shocks from stock and I would never spend that kind of money on aluminum wheels and no bead-lockers.

P.S. - If he did the 3in OME and all this cutting he could have put 36in++ tires on that thing - LOL. JK - don't do it.

Just recently noticed my air springs in the back are starting to leak at full articulation... Just to note, my tire in the picture is still not rubbing!!! Where did you guys say the best place (link) to pick up new ones were at??? If I replace one i need to replace both right???

As far as some of your postings about my front springs being week and all... I think they are more than stiff enough... actually they are very stiff!!! Comparing to some of my other rigs I've owned at least...

I have an extra set of front springs sitting in my garage in case you decide you need them.

why do people do the things they do to vehicles?

im sorry but i dont see any practicallity in this disco...

if you need 33 x 12" tires chances are you need at least 3" suspension and tougher drive train parts if you actually use it for offroad use.

so i guess its cool if you like it and its a mall crawler but.... your losing alot of the aspects that make a vehicle good off hwy....

Ok your right a truck like this is only good for mall crawling.... definitely just because you say so.... and most other people on this forum say so to also very ignorantly.... But I made this build for no one other than ME.... I just keep posting to show people what other possibilities are out there for this land rover....

So let me show you how I maneuver around at the local MALL (see pics)....

Here is also a link of me leaving the mall trying not to bump in to any of the local mall go'ers....

first of all most of the guys on here probably know a little bit more then you when it comes to land rovers so any advice or constructive criticism they give you is meant to help....

second anyone can slam a vehicle across some terrain like that hell i could take a honda accord across that. the fact is your set up is putting unnecessary stress on inherently weak parts, that when they break will more then likely leave you stranded.

part three of your FAIL is drinking and driving no one in their right mind would ever wheel with or around you..... good luck in the real world

I am no stranger to road beers but at the mall?! That seems to me to be asking for trouble. Keep the drinking and driving off the roads. If you want to inbibe in a few adult beverages while behind the wheel of your vehicle on private land go for it. I do the very same thing. I just let the wife drive when we get back to the pavement. I got no problem indangering myself and my property but other people, not so much.
Bottom line is that the guys on here have decades of experience in rovers both on and off road. If you cant take constructive critism go somewhere else. However, if you like what you have done with YOUR truck, good for you. Keep wheeling it and keep posting pics and vids. Just remember that the guys on here are just trying to help (mostly)

pilsner
btw cans foam up less than bottles when wheeling. just so you know.
