Not sure if this is a typo because it's been said twice, but the 4.3 is a V6. In my opinion though, a Chevy engine can be put into just about anything. Hell, I'd almost say put a carb'd 350 in a disco and let it ride. Its easier than you think to rip out the electronics and run some mechanical gauges. Less stuff to break, and depending on how modestly the motor was built I could almost guarantee significantly better gas mileage...

Wow, I'm not sure I ever knew that. I vaguely remember a 4.something V8, but not a 4.3... Well, in that case, if ya got it, use it. Also tho, since a 305 is just a de-stroked 350, and a 265 (4.3) is just a de-stroked 305; the 265 and 350 are essentially the same engine, right? Wonder what parts availability is for the 4.3? Might be worth it to throw a couple extra dollars into it up front for a motor that would be easier to find parts for later...

The main reason I chose this motor is due to its availability and its not to much for the Disco powertrain. I can buy these motors at salvage yards in running condition for 300. These are a fairly common motor actually.

That sounds awesome for $300. I'll definitely be following this thread, I'm open to any and all swaps. My Wife's truck motor is fine, but you never know...

Thumbs up

I< smittedly did NOT read all the posts...but a 4.3 does NOT have fule rails. Great little engine. If anyone does this, or the 5.7, just buy a 4.3/5.7, a 4L60E & T-case, end of ecu problemas...You want to cure the weight problem of the 5.7, spend a bit more and get a LS1 or 2!!! In any case, the best 4.3 is the '92-'95, the REAL VORTEC...and that one is batch fired.

I have spent a fair amount of time on 4.3's. I like the '92-'95 long runner/Vortec. It has the tarantula intake manifold. If you need a strong motor in a small place, it really is a good little motor. HOWEVER, having said that, I would NOT put one in my Disco. They are not great on gas, though better than the 4.0.
For my money, a LS1 or 2, would be a way better choice, get better mpg and way more power, all aluminum, they're the cats PJ's. For way less $$$, you can get a 5.3L Vortec truck engine. The 4.3's are a bit of a labor of love. They have odd ball parts, but if you must do it, let me know and I can shed some light on which block is best...in, fact here it is: get a pre-Vortec/non-balance shaft, roller block...way more after market , performance parts availabke, as well as all the gears and water pump from the SBC fit that block...
Good luck...I'm starting to figure out how I want to do the LS2 conversion...
