tbh larger tyres etc are all down to gearing in the diffs and transfer box, not really anything to do with the engine.

I do laugh tho, the topic is ref fitting a diesel, main reason for a diesel is economy, yet people are on about a 6.5L engine...........WTF for ? the TD5 is 2.5L and that's more than enough

and figures quoted in an earlier post of 20 MPG, bloody stupid if you ask me, if your going to go with the hassle of an engine swap to an oil burner what ever make it is, then you should be aiming for 30MPG "min".
I could be wrong, but in Britain, 28 mpg is equivalent to around 21 over here. You guys use a different gallon. In essence, with a 6.2 I am shooting for just over 20 mpg on the highway (the US highway).

It would be nice to stick a LR diesel in, it would be quite simple. Right now, within 60 miles of me, I have, in the last month in a half or so, been on the phone with at least 5 people with trucks with running 6.2's in them for less than 1000 dollars. Im not going to spend 6 grand shipping a LR diesel over here when these engines are so readily available.

Unfortunately, the Isuzu diesels (running) don't ever sell for less than 2 grand. On the surface, you would think, "for just a bit more, you could get a loads better diesel." In reality though, I can get 6.2 parts ANYWHERE. I don't have to adapt anything to make a chevy transmission work with it. I can buy new trannies for under 200 dollars any day of the week. I can, after a 6.2 has been placed in the truck, swap in pretty much ANY chevy engine if the 6.2 blows up or I decide I don't like the diesel.

American diesels are the only way to go on this side of the pond, unless your pockets are deep.

I'm not committed to the isuzu, I was just looking into it...that guy that did the DII/isuzu conversion also used the ZF-HP22 thats one reason it cost so much and probably why he had problems.

The 200/300Tdi is fine for stock tires, I am planning on running larger than stock tires.

No he didnt, he used a nv400 or something ...i cant remember...AbS is another issue as well as airconditioning...and fitting a intercooler...I wish it was more simple...

with a 200 or 300 TDI you can get 30 mpg...in a DI....forget trying to push a fat DII to that kind of milage....

i also cant see getting a reliable any kind of engine for 1k....hell ....just tires cost more than that.....

I stand corrected..he used a nv4500 but he did keep the LT230. I haven't read anything about it not running..where did you read that?

30 mpg british, not american as I said before-and I am sticking a diesel into a RRC, not a DII.

Whether they are reliable or not is a moot point. We are dealing in 20+ year old engines. If I wanted a brand new 6.2, I'd be paying over $2500. It is a gamble, as is any used vehicle purchase. All one can do is minimize the risk (by sticking oil coolers, transmission coolers, HO water pumps, those little kits to stiffen the engine block, and making sure whoever I buy the 6.2 from is not a crazy *** doucher that tears engines up)
